Tara Todd Farris with Granthistory

Ever since I was young, I have enjoyed working with children. In my younger days, I took a lot of babysitting jobs. When I was attending college, I worked as a nanny for a child with an expressive language delay. It was at that time my eyes first opened to the world of speech language pathology. I was amazed as I watched that child working with their speech language pathologist. I saw what an impact that person made on the child’s life, and I knew that was what I wanted to do. I found my calling in helping children improve the quality of their life by teaching them how to use their voice, so I became a speech language pathologist.

education

In my path to become a speech language pathologist, I put in the hard work required and obtained a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, along with a master’s degree in Health Science in Communication Disorders from Governer State University. I am a certified Early Intervention Evaluator and Specialist, and also have a Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. My commitment to learning more about the field did not stop in college though, and I have continued to expand my education in the field by attending conferences with other speech-language professionals. Along with this, I also have minor experience with American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish.
